How it works

  1. Start and target

You land on a Wikipedia article and see your target, for example from Beer to Moon.

  2. Only click links

You can only move on via links in the article text. No search, no going back, every click counts.

  3. At most 10 clicks

Reach the target with as few clicks as possible. In a tie, the faster player wins.

New: Training

New here or want to get better? In training you choose start and target yourself and the game shows you what to look for, which links lead towards the target and why.

  • Briefing: What is the target about, which articles link to it?
  • Hints at the push of a button: marked links with a reason.
  • Feedback after every click: closer or a detour?
  • Debrief: your path next to a short solution.

Complete 5 trainings and you get the achievement “Well trained” and 2 power-up packs.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Wiki race?

A Wiki race is a game with Wikipedia: you start on one article and have to reach a given target article using only the links in the text. Search and the address bar are off limits. On Wiki Streaks you have at most 10 clicks.

Is Wiki Streaks free?

Yes. Wiki Streaks is free and has no ads in the game. You can play right away in your browser, on your phone and on your computer.

Do I need an account?

No. On your first visit you automatically get a guest name and can play right away. If you want to save your progress (streak, power-ups, achievements) or keep playing on another device, enter your email address on your profile. You do not need a password, you get a link.

How does the daily challenge work?

Every day at midnight (Berlin time) there is a new pair of start and target article, the same for everybody. Your first attempt of the day counts: first the number of clicks, in a tie the time. After that you see how you did compared to everybody else.

What is the best way to learn the Wikipedia game?

In training: you choose start and target or draw a pair. At the push of a button the game shows you which links lead towards the target and why, rates every click and compares your path with a short solution at the end. Training rounds do not count for the leaderboard.

What is a streak?

Your streak counts how many days in a row you played the daily challenge. If you skip a day, the streak starts over.

Can I play with friends?

Yes, in two ways. At the same time: create a private round, choose start and target (or draw them) and send the room code or invitation link. Up to four people play, first to arrive wins. Or at different times: challenge a friend after any round. They play the same pair, then you compare your paths and appear together in the friends leaderboard.

Where do the articles come from?

All articles come live from the English Wikipedia and are licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0. Wiki Streaks is a private project and not affiliated with the Wikimedia Foundation.
